The Park is on Alaska Highway 3 between Anchorage (238 miles) and Fairbanks (193 miles). Alaska Railroad provides passenger and freight service; busses travel from both cities during the Summer. During the visitor season private vehicles are not allowed--free bus service is provided from the Visitor Access Center to Eielson Visitor Center and Wonder Lake.

All year. Peak visitor season is June to September. Climate: January, -60 to -2 degrees F; July, 23 to 70 degrees F. Precipitation: January, 0.6; July, 2.2. Length of day: December, 3 to 5 hours; June, 19 to 23 hours.
POINTS OF INTEREST
The Park contains Mount McKinley, North America's highest mountain. Large glaciers of the Alaska Range, caribou, Dall sheep, moose, grizzly bears, and timber wolves are other highlights of this national Park and preserve.

Cross-country skiing; dog sledding; fishing; backcountry use; hiking; campgrounds (first-come, first-served); picnicking; mountain climbing; interpretive talks and walks.
GENERAL INFORMATION
There are admission and campground fees. The Visitor Access Center provides campsite registration, backcountry permits, maps, brochures, and bus coupons. Private vehicles are only allowed to reach your campsite. Public transportation is provided to reach other parts of the Park. The Center has handicapped accessibility, as does the shuttle, tours, and five campgrounds. Overnight accommodations are available at motels around the entrance to the Park.
